Atlanta at the High

I went to the High Museum today to see the Iris Van Herpen exhibit, but there were also a lot of interesting people and outfits.

The dressses by Iris Van Herpen are really more like sculptures than wearable fashion.  She says in the video that she is inspired by nature, but the materials tell her what to make.  She is attracted to materials that she doesn't know how to work with.

The exhibit is well worth seeing.

In the rest of the museum, the contemporary art and photographs are my favorites -

Beth Lilly's photograph is haunting, and I love how she hand writes descriptions of her scenes -

And as we were leaving, a girl walked right into my tree photograph.  Lovely.

More inspiration at the museum

Today was filled with inspiration.  There was style inspiration outside the museum...

...and art inspiration inside the museum.

Alex Katz

The exhibit featuring Alex Katz includes a film of him creating this painting.  It was fascinating to see him go from this -

There were also many works by Atlanta artists that have given me great ideas for future art projects -

Michael Reese

Henry Detweiler

Brian Egan

The final inspiration of the day was of the culinary sort from Sno Bayou -

My daughter said it was the best thing she had ever eaten.

What inspired you today?

A day at the museum

My daughters and I took a spontaneous trip to the High Museum of Atlanta today.  My oldest daughter named it "The Best Museum Day Ever" due to the spinning tops and the Mo Willems exhibit.  I loved the photography exhibits and the fact that it was the first time they didn't make me sign something saying I wouldn't put these photographs on the internet.

I love this photograph for some reason.  I think it's the triangle effect of my daughter in the background looking at the guy in the Andy Warhol movie while standing the exact same way as I am standing.  Or maybe it's because this photo was taken right after the security guard told us to stop taking pictures of the Andy Warhol movie.  Contraband photo.

More contraband.  My daughter is figuring out where the movie is coming from.  Have a coke and a smile...
