Now that I have discussed  "style" for a while, I'm ready to move on to something deeper.  I just spent a few hours researching the compatibility of the way our brains are wired to create religious experiences (cognitive science of religion) with the actual existence of God.  I mention this particular topic not to dive into it specifically but to say that there are certain activities that cause me to loose track of time.  Researching a particular idea is an activity that can suck me into the vortex of another universe. Writing is another.  Sorting through photographs.  Talking to someone about a really interesting idea.  While doing these activities, I often get into"flow".

Steven Kotler in "The Rise of Superman" says - "In flow, we are so focused on the task at hand that everything else falls away.  Action and awareness merge.  Time flies.  Self vanishes.  Performance goes through the roof."  The benefit of "flow" is that there are actual physical and chemical reactions in our brains that improve our performance, our creativity, and our connection.  

This may all be too deep for a Memorial Day holiday, but I think it is relevant for the beginning of summer.  For some of you, summer just means the weather is hotter.  But for many of you, summer means children are at home and now you have no regular schedule.  I am already thrown off by the constant noise and the unscheduled days.  I am trying to figure out how to schedule large chunks of time so we can accomplish what we need to do while enjoying the flow of play, creativity, and each other.  

So, I'm wondering - 

How do you schedule or not schedule your summer?  

And do you see it passing by the minute, hour, or in larger chunks of time? (In other words, does it have a rhythm?)
